# Parent Messaging in the Child Care Mobile App

**Parent Messaging** allows you to have private conversations with parents/guardians, send text messages and add parent kiosk messages. **Parent Messaging** is available on the website and in the Child care mobile app.

> Important
> 
> **Office Chat** allows parents/guardians to have private conversations with admins to discuss more sensitive topics, such as billing. Staff with an Admin role with **Full Access** to **Parent**/**Staff Messaging** will receive these messages.

## Respond to Messages

1. Log in to the Child care mobile app.
2. Tap **Messages** ![messages icon](https://cdn.document360.io/cbafbd2c-42f8-485b-84e3-f3812fe8a596/Images/Documentation/messages-app.svg).

Unread messages are indicated by
  - The **Messages** ![unread message on messaging menu icon](https://cdn.document360.io/cbafbd2c-42f8-485b-84e3-f3812fe8a596/Images/Documentation/messaging-unread-status.svg) menu icon in pink
  - A pink dot indicator on **Office Chat** or **Classroom Chat**

3. Select the message channel to expand the list of messages.

  1. **Office Chat (available to admins only)** allows admins and authorized parents/guardians to have more confidential discussions about sensitive topics such as billing, registration and other important matters.
  2. **Classroom Chat** allows teachers and parents/guardians to message each other regarding classroom matters.
  3. **Drop-Off Notes** provides a section for families and staff to communicate important information during drop-off. **See** [Drop-Off Notes](/procare-online/docs/drop-off-notes) for details.
4. Current conversations display the student’s name in bold, the name of the person who sent the last message and a preview of the latest message.

## Create a New Message

1. Tap **New Message** ![child care mobile app new message icon](https://cdn.document360.io/cbafbd2c-42f8-485b-84e3-f3812fe8a596/Images/Documentation/new-message.svg).
2. Select the student(s), then tap **Next**.

3. Select a channel and message type.

4. Enter your message, then tap **Send**.

## Split Family Messaging

Families have the option to keep their messages private from other family members. Once you open the student conversation, you will see a drop-down option with each parent's/guardian’s name. Staff members can select the parent/guardian they want to communicate with.

The following message will display to indicate that messages are split from the other parent/guardian:

Select the parent's/guardian’s name at the top to send them a private message.

## Student Details in Messaging

Once a message is open, tap the student's name/avatar to display the student’s name, the room they are currently signed in to, and the parent/guardian’s name, relationship, phone number and email address (when provided). If a phone number is provided, tap the blue phone icon to call the parent/guardian.
